Husky Training Guide

Siberian husky puppyBeing an inexperienced husky owner is tough and Siberian husky training can seem very difficult for someone with no prior dog training experience. Training huskies almost seems like a guessing game, and with so much information out on the web it’s tough to find helpful tips and techniques. Here at HuskyAnswers we compiled a great resource for all your husky needs. You can either browse our articles or go straight to the husky training guide, the recommended handbook for all husky owners.

Who Needs to Train Their Husky Puppy?

Absolutely everyone. Training isn’t optional and owners that fail to properly train their puppies will soon face problems with chewing, dominance, & aggression. Your husky is learning new things every single day, regardless of whether or not you’re training him. You could be encouraging, or even praising your puppy’s bad behavior without realizing it. Many owners that go down this road end up with a troublesome dog.

Can’t I Just Hire a Dog Trainer?

Not only are trainers expensive but your puppy will never become fully trained this way. Your husky needs to see you as the alpha leader and listen to your commands out of respect – not because a fancy trainer said so. Remember this: You are your dog’s best trainer which is why here we support the idea that if you choose to take on the responsibility of owning a husky you need to take the responsibility to train them yourself.

I’m a New Husky Owner What Should I Do?

First and foremost you need to give your puppy some room of his/her own. Housebreak your puppy right away. You can use a crate to help you do so. Second, you need to establish a feeding and exercise schedule. If your puppy is old enough you can start more advanced training. Here’s a little about what you can do.

Housebreaking Your Husky – This is the first step of husky ownership that all dog owners face. Since huskies are medium-sized dogs they are easier to housebreak than toy breeds but can still be difficult depending on how old your husky is and how soon you start. Keep in mind that a husky as young as 8 weeks can already start learning, so housebreaking should be your priority #1. More is covered in the husky training guide.

Establishing a Feeding Schedule – Food is everything when it comes to your husky’s health. What you feed your dog will ultimately result in what your dog will become. If you feed your puppy garbage, you can be sure that its health will be equal to that. I see so many dog owners feed their dogs commercial food equivalent to sawdust dipped in salt. I’m a firm believer in cooking your own food instead of buying commercial dog food because not only do I put love into each meal that I prepare for my dog, but it’s also much healthier than anything else out there.

I know some of you may be thinking “Well, I don’t know how to cook” or “Where can I get recipes to cook dog food?” and those are good questions to be asking. Remember, dogs can’t process certain foods like vegetables or grains because of their short intestinal tract. A great man by the name of Andrew Lewis compiled a eBook full of great recipes you can start using today. He also answers all of your questions in regards of what you can and can’t feed your dog. You can get a copy of his eBook called Dog Food Secrets for about 25 bucks or so.
